Did you know that tissue in the brain is composed of grey and white matter? The names simply come from the color which appears to the naked eye. Grey matter is made up of cell bodies which process information in the brain. Trauma, stress, emotions, alcohol, and drugs can greatly affect your brain function, more importantly: grey matter. It stores our memories, controls our attention span and language.
In a new study provided by Harvard affiliated Mass General Hospital, “people participating in the ‘relaxation-response program’ actually used fewer health care services in the year after their participation, compared to how many they used the previous year” (Walia, 2016) The “relaxation response program” termed by the hospital was a combination of yoga, meditation and prayer. Scientists found that “when a person is feeling really good, and is full of positive emotions like love, gratitude, and appreciation, their heart beats out a different message that’s encoded in its electromagnetic field”, thus creating a positive outcome for their body (Walia, 2016). The study showed that participants used health services 43% less when in engaging in yoga, meditation and prayer on a daily basis.
There are many avenues to well being. And you need to find the one thats right for you! We have always believed that practicing meditation on a regular basis would greatly benefit individuals and now we have science to prove it. And not just any scientists, they are from one the world re-known hospitals…
There are so many styles of meditation, and we invite you to try our different styles to find one what suits you. Remember, the point of meditation is not to reach a zen like buddhist mind ( although, it would be nice) . Rather, it is to lessen to the attachment to our thoughts, and let them go as easily as they come in.
